有澳州南部約克半島的農民稱農業工具因輾過澳洲毛鼻袋熊而壞掉，向環境自然資源及水務署申請除掉部分來減少其數量。申請獲批准後，被土著土地信托阻止，並建議另覓解決方法，避免殺害這些原生動物。現時約克半島有約800隻澳洲毛鼻袋熊，原本獲准除掉200隻。

In South Australia’s Yorke Peninsula, a farmer broke his equipment after running over a wombat, and applied a compensation for his loss caused by wombats.. The farmer received the permit for humane destruction of wombats from the South Australian Department for Environment and Water, but the Aboriginal Lands Trust put a stop on the cull, and said will seek for alternative solution in order to protect these native species. There are around 800 of short-hairy nosed wombats living on Yorke Peninsula, at the culling was aimed to put down 200 of them.
