A study in Thailand discovered several new fungal species by examining spider webs. Spider webs are built to capture prey and are highly effective natural tools for trapping living fungi. Therefore, researchers collected and studied the webs of orb‑weaving spiders. They successfully collected fungal spores and cultured more than a hundred colonies, including several newly discovered species.
