The critically endangered Turquoise dwarf gecko (Lygodactylus williamsi) in Tanzania once faced extinction due to illegal poaching, the pet trade, and habitat loss. Since 2016, conservationists have worked with local communities to restore the Kimboza Forest Reserve by removing invasive tree species and planting native trees. Their efforts have helped the gecko population and improved habitat for other native wildlife.
