Monterey Bay Aquarium’s sea otter surrogacy program has been pairing stranded pops with non-releasable female otters. Female otters have strong maternal drive naturally and this pushes them to care for these pups. These pups learn to groom, forage and socialize before returning to the wild, making 75% of these orphans successfully returned to the wild.
