Coastal species like crabs, barnacles and anemones are growing on floating debris in the open ocean of the Pacific Ocean. These species travel with the help of plastic debris and reached the open ocean, competing with native species there and disrupt the ecosystems. another potential problem is these coastal species could reach another coastline and might become invasive.
