最新研究統計，2019年全球約有3.53億噸的塑膠垃圾，是20年前的兩倍以上，當中只有9%被回收，其餘的都被堆填、焚燒及成為大自然的污染物。這些塑膠垃圾中有40%是一次性的塑膠包裝，如購物袋、膠樽、食品及衣物包裝等。

there were 353 million tons of global plastic waste in 2019, the amount was more than twice compared to 20 years ago. Only 9% of the plastic waste was recycled, the others were in landfill, burned or entered our natural environments. 40% of the plastic waste came from single-use plastic packing such as shopping bags, plastic bottles, food and clothing packaging.
