全球八種穿山甲都是瀕危物種，牠們主要受中藥的非法貿易所威脅。牠們的鱗片在中國的醫院及藥房仍然普及。一項研究訪問了中國河南省及海南省的 41 家醫院和 134 藥房，發現 2/3 的醫院及34% 的藥房都有銷售穿山甲鱗片的藥物。部分醫院仍可合法銷售，但當中46% 的醫院及藥房則屬非法銷售。

All eight species of pangolin are endangered mainly due to illegal trade for Chinese medicine, and their scales are still widely available in China’s hospitals and pharmacies. A study interview 41 hospitals and 134 pharmacies in two provinces (Henan and Hainan) in China, and discovered 2/3 of the hospitals provide and 34% of the pharmacies were selling pangolin scale products. Some hospitals were selling them legally, but 46% of the hospitals and those pharmacies were selling them illegally.
