人類排放大量二氧化碳到大氣中，被大海吸收後令太平洋的海水酸度越來越高。研究發現首長黃道蟹的幼蟹外殻因此被溶解，損害牠們的器官，亦使牠們更容易成為捕食對象。研究人員估計甲殻類動物出現行動及發育緩慢、感知及觸覺不靈敏等問題亦與海水變酸相關。
The ocean is absorbing carbon dioxide from the atmosphere and cause ocean acidification. Study found that the shells of young Dungeness crabs across Pacific Ocean is dissolving because of acidification. This would damage their sensory organs and make them an easier target for predators. Researchers said acidification causes developmental delays, slow movements, swimming and food searching problems to crabs and other crustaceans.
