Spanish police arrested 29 people after seizing 180kg of critically endangered young European eels; these eels are sold for food in Spain and east Asia. according to a study in 2019, 90% of eel served in Hong Kong restaurants are from critically endangered European eels as well as endangered American eels and Japanese eels.
