人類對墨魚的需求很大，每逢繁殖季墨魚都會到英國近岸水域產卵，並被大量捕捉。超過九成的墨魚未能成功產卵已被捕捉，嚴重影響墨魚的數量並使其面臨絕種。環保團體呼籲避免食用，並希望能立法管制捕漁量及禁止於繁殖季捕撈墨魚。
