Rocks made from human industrial waste have been discovered along a shoreline in the UK. These rocks are mainly composed of slag clasts (byproducts of iron and steel production from the 19th and 20th centuries) and took only around 35 years to form. Other items such as aluminum can tabs and coins were also found embedded in the rocks. In contrast, natural sandstones typically take millions of years to form. Researchers warn that the development of these rocks formed by industrial waste could reduce biodiversity and negatively impact local ecosystems.
