美國加州的杏仁生產區佔全球八成的杏仁出產量，杏仁需要授粉繁衍，而養殖蜜蜂是最常用的方法。但養殖在這些杏仁生產區的蜜蜂在單一栽種的環境下變得營養不良，加上使用的農藥令蜜蜂免疫力下降，及蜜蜂被迫提早結束冬眠來迎合杏仁的花期，導致大量蜜蜂死亡。而且這些人工養殖的蜜蜂多為覓食能力較強的歐洲蜜蜂，並非美國原生物種，所以亦破壞了當地的生態系統，對原生蜜蜂造成影響。
80% of world’s almond supply is from California, many almond farms are using commercial beekeepers to help pollinate their groves, but this is putting bees in danger. with only one single plant species in the farm and the use of pesticides, these bees become malnourished and their immunity system become weak; they are also required to wake up earlier from hibernation to meet the crop season; large number of bees were killed as a result. Moreover, these bees they breed are mainly European honey bees; they are exotic species and and threatening native bees as well as the ecosystem.
