Beside being the most trafficked species worldwide, over 1000 of pangolins in South African are being killed by electric fences annually. there are an estimated 6million kilometers of electric fences in South Africa. Around 38% of these fences are used by commercial farms and game ranches. Electric fences can help protect livestock and reduce human-wildlife conflict, but also kill smaller animals like pangolins, tortoises and snakes.
