The ocelot is an endangered species in Mexico, threatened mainly by habitat loss, hunting, and climate change. During dry periods, ocelots often enter human settlements in search of water, leading to conflicts with people. To address this, NGOs designed and installed 13 water-collection systems with plastic troughs, placed in remote areas to provide ocelots with an alternative water source and reduce conflict. In addition to ocelots, other wildlife such as margays and Yucatán brown brockets have also been observed using these troughs.
