Clownfish are shrinking their own sizes to make them require less food and save energy to survive heatwaves. A study in Papua New Guinea measured 134 clownfish during a heat wave, and discovered 75% of them shrunk at lease once. Shrinking their sizes may temporary help them survive, but in long term, it’s still unclear how their size will affect the balance of reef life.
