Over 13,000 volunteers worldwide contributed to an online iguana survey by counting individuals in aerial images captured by drones. The Galápagos marine iguana is an endangered species found only in the Galápagos Islands, and many of its colonies are difficult to access. By using drones alongside citizen scientists to count iguanas and estimate their population sizes, researchers can develop more accurate and effective conservation plans to protect them.
