In Koh Libong, Thailand, seagrass—the dugong’s primary food—has suffered die‑offs from environmental stressors such as climate change and pollution, causing dugong numbers to plummet. Local communities formed the Dugong Guardians to protect dugongs through seagrass restoration, monitoring and research, and by promoting dugong‑friendly boating and fishing practices to reduce human impacts on wildlife.
