鯨頭鸛身高1-1.5米，棲息於非洲東部及中部的濕地，主要以鯰魚為食。鯨頭鸛是一種獨特的鳥類，是鯨頭鸛科(Balaenicipitidae)中唯一的物種。然而，由於農業及開採石油等人類活動導致棲息地喪失，牠們的數量正在減少。鯨頭鸛現時被世界自然保護聯盟瀕危物種紅色名錄列為易危物種。

Shoebill is a large bird that is 1-1.5m tall. It is native to wetlands of tropical central and East Africa, mainly feeds on catfishes. it is a unique bird that is the only species in its family Balaenicipitidae.  However, their population is decreasing because of habitat loss due to human activities like agriculture and oil exploration. It is now listed as vulnerable on the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species.
