Conservationists in South Africa have built ceramic nests as shields for the endangered African penguins. These artificial nests provide these penguins a safe and shaded place to breed and raise their chicks. In the past, these penguins would use layers of old guano, but in the 19th century, most of the guano was collected and sold as fertilizer. Since then these penguins are facing a hard time to build nests.
