Channel Island foxes are tiny foxes that inhabit on six different islands in southern California. They were once in risk of extinction but were recovered with conservation efforts. However, they are now facing a new threat; their genetic diversity has decreased and that can reduce their ability to adapt future challenges such as climate change or other diseases. On the other hand, scientists discovered the foxes have good diversity of gut microbiome, and can give them better immunity.
