浣熊曾經是日本流行的寵物，但牠們不是容易養的寵物，所以很就成為了入侵物種。牠們在東京都的數量不斷增加，對自然棲息地及農作物造成破壞，甚至對瀕危的東京小鯢等原生野生動物構成威脅。當地政府設置了陷阱，並開通了熱線電話，讓公眾舉報浣熊的蹤跡，希望能移除更多浣熊。

The North American raccoon was once a popular pet in Japan. Raccoons are not easy pets, so soon they became invasive species. the number of their population has been increasing in Tokyo, causing destruction to natural habitat and crops as well as threatening native wildlife like the endangered Tokyo salamander. the local government has set up traps and launched hotlines for the public to report sights of the raccoons.
