Eating cat and dog meat is part of the tradition for one of the largest ethnic group in Indonesia, but beside animal cruelty, it also causes threats to human health like spreading rabies. the local mayor aimed to reduce the interest in consuming these meat by ending the selling in markets. Beside cat and dog meat, other wild and protected species like flying foxes, snakes and primates can also be found in the market.
