南極洲首次發現禽流感，科學家擔心這會對海狗、海獅及鳥類等野生動物構成危險，並導致企鵝等鳥類繁殖失敗。這次禽流感是在從南美遷徙到南極的棕色賊鷗身上檢測到的，南美洲有超過20000隻海獅及50000隻海鳥因禽流感死亡。

Bird flu is found in Antarctica for the first time, scientists are concerning it will put wildlife like fur seals, sea lions and bird at risk, and cause breeding failure to the birds like penguins. the bird flu was detected on a brown skua which migrated from South American, where over 20000 sea lions and 50000 seabirds were killed by the flu.
