保育成功助猴子數量回升

奇龐吉猴棲息於坦桑尼亞南部的高地,首次於 2000 年代初被發現,當時僅有約 1000 隻;牠們主要受人類活動如伐木及狩獵等所威脅。 經過 13 年的保育工作,猴子數量增加了 65%,人類造成的干擾亦減少了 81%! 這項長期保育計劃包括與當地人合作,僱用他們作為保護區的護林員、森林復育、學校及公共教育、減少猴子與農民的衝突、及清除林中的捕獸器陷阱等等。

The kipunju monkey inhabits Tanzania’s Southern Highlands and was first discovered in the early 2000s with only around a thousand individuals; they were mainly threatened by human impacts like logging and hunting. with 13 years of conservation work, the monkeys population has increased by 65%, and the program has helped reduce human impacts by 81%! This long-term conservation program includes working with locals by hiring them as rangers for the protected areas, forest restoration, school and public educational programs, reducing conflict with farmers, removing snares in forests and a lot more.
