The environment minister in Canada calls for an emergency order to block logging and protect the last Northern spotted owl in the forest of British Columbia. The old-growth forest where spotted owls inhabit is disappearing because of industrial logging, and now there is only one wild-born owl left. If the order get approved, this will be the third time in the past 20 years for Canada to apply emergency powers to protect an endangered species.
