With joint efforts from the government and local communities, the number of Asiatic lions in Gujarat, India, has increased around 32% since 2020. The Asiatic lions used to roam from the Middle East to India, but was reduced to the small population in Gujarat mainly because of hunting and poaching. However, habitat improvements, strengthened outreach, enforcement and management helped to increase their population from 674 in 2020 to 891 this year.
